Economic Woes Continue

The March Unemployment Rate figures for Ohio continue to paint a pessimistic picture for Galion and Crawford County. Figures released by the Office of Workforce Development indicate that Crawford County had a 15.0 percent unemployment rate for the month, tying Pike County in southern Ohio for the state’s 7th worst figure. Of the six counties with higher rates, contiguous Huron County had the highest rate at 17.5 percent. As much of the Huron County workforce is seasonal, this rate should decline somewhat in coming months. Click here for a larger version of the rate map. At the same time, a poll just released by the University of Cincinnati found that 3 out of every 10 Ohio families have faced a job less in their household over the past year, and a sizable percentage of citizens feel that the next generation will continue to face tough economic times. A small reduction was measured, however, in the number of Ohioans who feel that the economy will weaken, not improve. Click here for coverage of the poll on Ohio.com.
