gchdThe Galion City Health Department recently launched an informational drive for the community, including through the use of online social media.

The primary mechanism for this effort is the department’s new Facebook Page. The page shares the departmental mission and vision – “Promote and Protect the Health and Well-Being of the Communities We Serve,” and “To Inspire and Engage our Citizens and Community to by Optimally Healthy.” On a regular basis, the Health Department issues notices and news items, which are then automatically transmitted to the page’s “fans.” Recent posts on the page include photos from a recent strategic planning retreat, information about immunizations, a look at upcoming changes in Ohio law concerning child safety, and details about services provided by the department.

Recent searches have shown that at least 2,500 Facebook members either list Galion as their current city of residence or as their “hometown.” Through online social media, local government, businesses and service providers can make timely information available on a regular basis. In addition to GalionLive, other Galion businesses with Facebook Pages current include Donley Auto Group and Poland Hardware; area pages include ones for Crestline High School and the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival.
