The Galion Historical Society has announced the date for their Annual Banquet, which this year will be held on Tuesday, September 15.
Each year, the Society holds a sit-down dinner to mark the arrival of another year of programs and events. Guests are also treated to a presentation by an invited guest on a topic of interest related to the Society’s mission to preserve the past of Galion and surrounding townships. This year’s event will be held at the Galion Moose Club, 530 South Market Street. Tables will be available for those wishing to pay their annual membership dues.
This year’s speaker will be Ted Bruner, who in addition to being the Superintendent of Colonel Crawford Local Schools is also an avid student of the American Revolutionary War period – and particularly the saga of the expedition of Colonel William Crawford to this area in 1782. Dressed in period costume, Ted will discuss the context and importance of that expedition, and will relay details of the Battle of Olentangy, one of the last open-field battles between British and Colonial troops during the Revolutionary War period. The battle itself took place just a few miles west of Galion.
Come hear about the unique history of this part of Ohio, including stories of Native Americans, 18th century militia, British troops, Russian nobility… and even George Washington! The charge this year is $15, which includes dinner. Reservations are required; please contact Treva Seckel at 419.468.5567 by September 10. For more information, click here.
