gtweetIt might not be catching on as quickly in some other communities, but Galion businesses and institutions are becoming acquainted with opportunities inherent in social networking. Fall months saw many of them create a presence on the two leading sites, Facebook and Twitter.

Twitter provides participants with a means to generate short texts that can also contain links, photos and even video. Over ½ of the businesses on Inc. magazine’s 500 fastest-growing companies use the service (click here), and entire sectors of the business world are becoming Twitter-conscious, including real estate, health care and others. In addition to GalionLive, Galion-area companies and institutions already on Twitter include:

    • Child Care Choices – often includes information on important national news affecting children, health and parenting.
    • Galion Free Methodist Church – One of Galion’s newest tweeting institutions, the congregation uses the site in part to share current programming and events.
    • Bucyrus Redmen – part of the communications network for Bucyrus City Schools, and is used to share information on the district, events, etc.
    • Rock Solid Media – a Galion-based company specializing in e-mail, mobile and interactive marketing.
    • Mentoring Program of Crawford County – an agency which promotes a mentoring program for 6th to 8th grade students in the county.

One of the benefits GalionLive provides these tweeting companies is a means to increase their presence online though “Galion Tweeters” and “Galion Area Twitters” on GalionLive Online, which provide instantly-updated feeds of Galion, Crawford County and area sources. We also promote area events, businesses and stories on our own Twitter page, which has links which are clicked hundreds of times each week.

Many more Galion companies are using Facebook to communicate with Galion-area residents. The site has some 350 million users, over half of whom log into the site on any given day, according to the site’s statistics page, and over 700,000 businesses have a presence on the site.

Galion businesses and institutions on Facebook include several of the above, as well as:

    • Donley Auto Group
    • Flower Cart Florist
    • Crawford County Teen Institute
    • Galion Historical Society Youth Board
    • Poland Hardware
    • Varsity Grille
    • Galion Community Center YMCA
    • Galion City Health Department
    • Shooters Bar & Grill
    • Several GHS Alumni groups
    • Galion Alumni Band
    • Galion Public Library Teen Programs
    • GHS Yearbook/The Spy

GalionLive provides community Facebook Pages and Groups with the ability to reach a wider audience – in fact, there may be as many as three the number of local users currently on Facebook than subscribe to the local newspaper. Our Facebook Page allows for any Facebook user to post news, event information or promotions, free of charge, allowing them to get additional coverage – and we then tweet many of those postings via our Twitter account.

All this interaction taking place, using 21st century technology and Galion city council members still refuse to post their email addresses.

I don’t know who runs or operates the ” Official Galion City Website ” . They surely do a very pathetic job of it as half is blank, no information provided.

If you have permit questions in Galion, you have to make a call to Phil Honsey in Grove City. I didn’t realize he was still on the city payroll.

At the bottom is says it was revised 10/01/09. Someone is not doing their job, but getting paid for it.

There are lots of folks getting paid to do nothing here. According to the city charter we have several people getting paid for jobs that are not in it. Like superintendent of water and sewer is not in their for one example but nobody has done anything about it. Same old stuff different day and city council lets it go and with the newly elected member that will continue as well as the one who was reelected and was in office when all the money went missing during the whole misappropriations or whatever you want to call it. I fell nice a secure now.
