The annual “Come Home to Galion for the Holidays” celebration for 2010 is taking shape.

Committee members met yesterday evening at Home Care Matters to update planning in several areas, and the overall elements of this December’s event are now clear — now just 129 days away (December 4).

    They include the following:

Parade – including bands, floats and more
Christmas Tree Lighting on the Square
Galion West Shopping Center – the desire this year is to include west-side merchants and businesses in the celebration
Galion Stew Cook-Off – area churches are being solicited to take part in a first annual stew cook-off for charity
Military recognition – a number of program elements this year will pay tribute to Galion’s servicemen and women
Food Drive – in response to the overwhelming local need for food assistance, this effort will be given special attention this year

Committee Chair Joel Sanchez noted that requests for corporate and business donations has been mailed some two months ahead of last year’s timing, and that a substantial number of such donations have already been received.

The committee is actively seeking units to participate in this year’s grand parade. A parade application is now available — click here to access:

Applications should be dropped off at Uptowne Outfitters on or before October 31. An information packet will be mailed to participants after that date.

The theme for this year is “Galion: Past and Present.”
