    GalionLive takes a two-part look at this evening’s meeting of the Galion City Schools Board of Education. Taken in chronological order of how the evening’s events transpired, we first look at the public demonstration of solidarity undertaken by the Galion Education Association; in the second part, we will look at the meeting itself – including actions taken and items discussed by the Board.

    Forty-five minutes before the beginning of Thursday’s meeting of the Galion City Schools Board of Education, teachers were already joined in a public show of unity.

    The parking lot of the Galion Middle School was a sea of cars, in the middle of which almost 100 individuals gathered – the majority teachers, but also family members. The event was a “tailgate” which served to bring together members … Read the rest

    Getting Some TLC

    The original GalionLive site (here at: www.galionlive.com) is taking a hiatus of sorts over the next week or two. We’ll be taking the site down on Thursday.

    In May of 2009, this site was re-launched as a location for feature stories, while it’s companion site at: community.galionlive.com has served as a social networking and information center. This is the 163rd feature story which has been posted in that period, stories which have generated some 1,003 comments to date on this site alone.

    Oktoberfest on Facebook

    This year’s Galion Oktoberfest took place during the same weekend as the launch of the new movie, “The Social Network,” profiling the creation of social media phenomenon Facebook. Facebook is certainly a worthy subject of a major motion picture, as it has captured the attention of some 500 million users worldwide.

    In fact, the extent to which Facebook has permeated the American culture can be easily demonstrated right here in the heart of north-central Ohio. Not only are there some 5,000 Facebook users within 5 miles of zip code 44833, but there are an estimated 700,000 Facebookers within 50 miles of Galion, Ohio.

    Historical Society To Hire Executive Director

    The Galion Historical Society, which celebrated its 55th anniversary with a banquet earlier this month, is setting the stage for hiring the first staff person in its history.

    This summer the Society’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to create the position of Executive Director, and the search to fill that position will begin shortly. A search committee comprised of Board members and invited members met earlier this week to make decisions on the application process.
