Galion Police joined with their counterparts in Bucyrus yesterday in assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, as multiple containers of illegal bath salts were seized in Tiro.

In addition to the illegal substances, additional narcotics and cash were also recovered.

Taken into custody during the seizure was Surgit Singh of Marion, age 70, who has been charged with aggravated possession. Singh is the owner of the Tiro store where the items were found.

Ohio’s prohibition against bath salts and synthetic marijuana went into effect last October. Not to be confused with the type of product legitimately used for enhancing a bath, these substances can induce numerous adverse effects including increasing both blood pressure and heart rates, as well as inducing hallucinations and paranoid states.

The Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association will celebrate its 26th season this summer. The HOJGA serves youths ages 9-18 from Marion, Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Morrow, Union, and Wyandot counties.

One of the Association’s tournament events will be held in Galion this year.

The non-profit, all-volunteer association was started in 1987 by Marion-area executives who saw a need to establish a program to educate juniors through a golf camp, seminar, eight-tournament tour, awards, and scholarships toward college education.

One of the early events of the 2012 season is the golf camp which is scheduled for June 7. The camp is held for beginners and youths who want to brush up on the fundamentals of the golf swing. Rules and etiquette on the golf course will also be discussed.
