    Hiding in Galion

    You go by them every day as you go about your business, yet never know they are there. They are hidden in bushes, rock formations, trees and under bridges. Some are in cemeteries, and others can be found in public parks. No, we’re not talking about infectious disease agents or anything sinister – in fact, we’re talking about the kind of things that give pleasure to thousands of people around the world.

    We’re talking about geocaches and letterboxes, those hidden items which dot the landscape and are there to tempt the true treasure seeker.

    Summer Day Camp Registration Open

    The Galion Community Center YMCA is now accepting registrations for their annual Summer Day Camp.

    For the last two decades, this program has provided Galion children with a place to spend time during the summer in a camp environment, including organized sporting, arts, and social activities. Center YMCA membership is not required to attend, but it does provide a substantial discount on program fees.

    Those fees are as follows:

    Full Day Camp (6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

    • Member — $20/Day, $60/Week, $685.00 for entire summer if paid by June 1
    • Youth Member — $22/Day, $80/Week, $955 for entire summer if paid by June 1
    • Non-Members — $26/Day, $100/Week, $1095 for entire summer if paid by June 1

    Half Day Camp (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

    • Member — $16/Day, $50/Week, $585

    Play Ball!

    On Monday evening, Galion officially becomes the home of something brand-new and sure to please.

    The region’s newest softball league becomes a reality at 5:00 p.m., when the Eagles take on Flower Cart in the inaugural contest of the Galion Men’s Softball League.

    Nine teams, each with 11 to 13 members, will play a 12-week season at East Park with games taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The season will culminate in tournament play.

    Teams and coaches include the following:

    • Eagles – Bill Dapper
    • Varsity Grille – Lyle Chasse
    • Covert Manufacturing-Stage II — Justin Wolfe
    • D’s Auto – Jeremiah Howe
    • AA American Bail Bonds – Jordan Powell

    Galion’s MOM’S Club Makes a Contribution for Local Moms

    A new local organization made a very generous donation this past week, one expressly designed to provide a practical boost to those in need.

    The MOM’s Club of Galion, which was started in September of 2011, traveled to the Ohio Heartland Community Action Center on Friday, where they delivered 12 Mother’s Day bags for distribution by the agency. Each brightly-colored bag contained toilet paper, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, bath towels, wash cloths, and lotion.

    Officials from the Ohio Heartland CAC warmly welcomed the donations. Each will be given to a mother that is in need of basic essentials.
