Editor’s Note: GalionLive is thrilled to present the first submission by our new correspondent, Kaylee Powers. Kaylee is a student at Galion High School, and is considering a future in media and journalism. If her first story is any indication, she’s going to have a great career in front of her!

On Friday, February 3, the Galion High School Wrestling team paid homage to those who have been their biggest supporters in what has been a very successful year. Though named “Parent’s Night,” other family members and important people to the wrestler are often included in the affair.

Before the quad meet with Northmor, Plymouth, and Ontario schools began, each wrestler and their various companions were announced and then walked across the gym to the … Read the rest

Looks Like Galion Will Be MOAC Bound

    by  • February 9, 2012 • News & Views, Sports • 0 Comments

GHS Principal Fritz Caudle put it this way: “At one point, it looked like we might not have any options.” Now, Galion has three paths to choose, and it is apparently choosing to look toward the south and west.

When last we posted on the subject, Upper Sandusky had voted to withdraw from the NCC in favor of joining the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, a league composed of Marion, Morrow, Delaware, Knox, and Morrow County Schools. With the arrival of new members, this league will now be splitting into East and West Divisions. This decision by Upper left Galion, Ontario, and Lucas without a sports home starting with the 2014-2015 school year, as a three-team conference is not a viable scenario.

Fast forward to this week. According to unconfirmed reports, the athletic directors of seven schools within … Read the rest

    A Galion Olympian

    by  • January 20, 2012 • News & Views, Sports • 2 Comments

When the athletes enter the Olympic Stadium in London this summer for the 2012 Summer Olympics, a Galionite will be among them.

Galion’s Nate Reinking, son of Ron and Judy Reinking, will be wearing the colors of Great Britain as he plays for that country’s national basketball squad. And playing in England will likely come naturally to him, as he has been playing in Europe for the last 15 years. Reinking currently stars for the team in Mersey, the British Basketball League club in Liverpool (click here to view his player page).

And – appropriately enough — Mersey’s team is known as the Tigers.

Nate is a 1992 graduate of Galion High School. During his senior year at GHS, the team finished with a 17-6 record under coach … Read the rest
