    New Pro Baseball League Seeks Local Owner

    Professional Baseball League entrepreneur Eric Spitaleri has contacted GalionLive and sought our assistance in promoting the concept of a professional baseball team for our community.

    Some weeks back, we profiled efforts to create the Independent Baseball League, a Midwest-based conference of baseball teams in a wide range of communities. Included in initial speculation were teams in Bowling Green, Cleveland, Tiffin, and Galion in Ohio; Mount Pleasant, Michigan; and Muncie, Indiana.

    Now, Spitaleri is looking for a local owner for the Galion operation. He shares the following:

    Cross Country Festival This Saturday

    It’s that time of year again, when Amann’s is overrun by cross country runners from Middle Schools and High Schools from across Ohio.

    This Saturday, September 17, brings the annual Galion Cross County Festival – one of the Midwest’s largest competitions for scholastic cross county team members. In 2010, 3,478 runners from a total of 276 teams came to Galion to participate in the meet. This includes not only a wide range of teams from across northern Ohio, but also from the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, and Akron metropolitan areas.

    The top finishers in 2010 were runners from Reynoldsburg and Ashland High Schools (for the boys and girls, respectively).

    It is possible to obtain the specific details about last night’s contest between Galion and Mansfield Senior in other local media. There, you will undoubtedly read about Terrell Dorsey, the Mansfield Senior running back who had an amazing night, scoring four touchdowns.

    It was the largely the intangibles, however, which made the evening what it was.

    First, it was obvious from the kickoff that the current edition of the Tiger football team arrived well-coached, well-prepared and ready to play. Not only was there no lack of hesitation apparent in taking on a much larger school, the team played aggressive and “in your face” football.
