Each registered user has the ability to make their own profile page completely private to all but friends; in a similar fashion, each user can control what types of activity show up in the Latest Activity stream on the front page. Similarly, the decision was made at the start of this site to allow for anonymous registration – so that it is literally impossible for anyone, including the site owner, to tell who “indridog” or “tootsie211” is.

    GalionGuy – GalionGuy has been a repository of excellent local photography and features for the last several years. Its photos of Galion – particularly those which show local scenes in various seasons – are one-of-a-kind.

    Flickr – Entering the word “Galion” into the Flickr search box in March, 2010 generates some 2,539 results, many of them of Galion or Galionites. As a general photography site with postings from around the world, you will also find photos that refer to the word “Galion” in other contexts, including place and business names.

    Snow!

    galionsnowIt seems the perfect day to take a few moments and consider just a few aspects of the ongoing relationship between winter weather and our fair city. From sledding to snow, let’s take a look at wintery Galion…

    Salt on hand – As a reminder, as of January 12, the City of Galion had only used some 30% of their normal salt supply for the winter season.

    Snow Plow City – Galion businesses have been making snow plows for 100 years. This narrative advertisement in a 1915 edition of The American City features the “Galion Imperial steel reversible snow-plow and gutter cleaner.” A photo of the Galion Imperial can be seen in this advertisement from a different issue of the same magazine.

    Landmark, National Register, Design Review – What’s What? – And Why?

    brownsquareTwo weeks ago, the Galion Design Review Board, the oldest of the city’s architectural review boards, decided to re-launch the Galion Landmarks Register, which was initially started soon after the Board’s creation in 1994. After a handful of initial properties were designated, the list fell into disuse. Recently, City of Galion Design Review staff person Linda Chambers resurrected the idea – and this time the program will  include a partnership with the Galion Historical Society.
