    The Very Best of Fall at This Week’s God’s Little Acre

    Better weather is in the forecast, and vendors and customers will want to take advantage of that this Saturday at God’s Little Acre Farmers’ Market, open 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 240 S. Market St., in Galion.

    Heritage Harvest Farm’s Corinne Gompf, of Galion, says that this warm-up is really going to help local growers. “These sunny, warm days are going to boost the remainder of our summer crop and help our fall vegetables grow. Growers still have some tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables associated with summer … and it’s October.     The NorthSide Farmers’ Market will be open Oct. 4, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on St. Rt. 598.

    Becky and John Witter, of Witter Produce, in Tiro, will be returning to the market this week. According to Becky, they will have red onions, some tomatoes, green bell peppers, jalapenos, “Yummy” peppers, Brussels Sprouts, grapes, kohlrabi and green beans. Pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, indian corn, broom corn and corn shawks will also be available at their booth. “We’ll also have ‘Red Delicious’ apples in quart containers and half pecks and wrapped straw bales,” adds Becky.

    David and Molly Ernst plan to return to NorthSide Farmers’ Market this week with tomatoes, garlic, pumpkins and gourds. Molly will have homemade fudge, while David will have his hand-hammered jewelry … Read the rest

    Senior Appreciation Day at God’s Little Acre Farmers Market

    It’s Senior Appreciation Day at God’s Little Acre Farmers’ Market, open Saturday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 240 S. Market St., Galion. The market’s senior customers are welcome to have free coffee as they visit with friends and vendors.

    “We appreciate our senior customers who visit us each week. Over the summer, we have gotten to know a lot of community members who frequent GLAFM, and it is always such fun to share a laugh with our customers,” says Corinne Gompf, of Heritage Harvest Farm, in Galion. According to Gompf, she and her husband, Matt, will have produce, spice and dip mixes and at least five flavors of bread.

    NorthSide Offers Fall Favorites on Tuesday

    The NorthSide Farmers’ Market will have fall produce in abundance at the Sept. 20 market, open 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on St. Rt. 598.

    John and Becky Witter, of Witter Produce, in Tiro, will have winter squash, including acorn, butternut and deletica.The Witters will also have “Blue Lake” green beans, peppers, potatoes, onions and cabbage.

    Marcheta Gibson, of Gibson Orchard in Galion, says that she will have decorative pumpkins and gourds, as well as gallons and half-gallons of cider at this week’s market. Gibson, and her husband, Jim, will also have “Yellow Delicious” apples and “Barlett” pears.

    Fairview Farm’s Dave Riedel, of Galion, will have “Heritage” red raspberries, seedless grapes and “Crenshaw” melons.

    Tailgate Saturday at God’s Little Acre

    Food, fun and football is on the minds of vendors at God’s Little Acre Farmers’ Market, located at the First Presbyterian Church, 240 S. Market St., in Galion. The Sept. 17 market is open 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., and there is plenty of parking.

    “We’re tailgating at the market,” says Corinne Gompf, of Heritage Harvest Farm. “Vendors will have football-themed products, and we’ll have a radio playing football pregame talk shows from 9 a.m. – noon. A few ladies from the church will be selling delicious chocolate buckeyes to go along with our tailgating party.”

    Pumpkins, gourds and winter squash have come into season, and many NorthSide Farmers’ Market vendors will have those items and more at the Sept. 13 market, open 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., at the KFC on St. Rt. 598.

    Marcheta Gibson, of Gibson Orchard in Galion, says that she will have decorative pumpkins and gourds, as well as “Yellow Delicious” and “Jonathan” apples at this week’s market.

    Springwood Valley Farm’s Dale Norwood, of Galion, says that he and wife, Toni, will have jack-o-lantern and pie pumpkins, as well as potted herbs and hot and sweet peppers. “We’ve got lots of fresh-cut stevia, too,” says Norwood.
