When you walk through the front door of Brownella Cottage this Saturday, don’t forget to look up. You might also want to quckly look to see who is near you.

What you will see is a ball of mistletoe hanging just inside the doorway from one of the pendants of the beamed reception parlor ceiling. This bit of color matches similar sprays of greenery throughout the landmark house, decorated as never before for the Christmas season. On each occasion, between 7 to 12 individuals have taken the opportunity to undertake a “hands-on” adventure and to gain a first-hand opinion on whether or not the historic house is haunted.

Each of these tours has sold out almost immediately after a date is posted – to date, no advertisement has been necessary. Those making the voyage into the unknown have included husbands and wives, paranormal investing organizations, and groups of friends. A set of nurses at Marion General Hospital came … Read the rest

How do you know that late June has duly arrived in Galion? Drive by the corner of West Walnut and South Union Streets, and you’ll quickly discover the answer — the collection of hundreds of day lilies has just started to bloom at Brownella Cottage.

The next three weeks will provide the annual spectacle of color and contrast, as the bright orange of the flowers is set off against the backdrop of the brick house, painted trim, and green lawns.

We went by Brownella this afternoon, and thought that our readers, near and far, might like a glimpse of the start of this annual tradition. We’ll be sure to pass along another when the display is at its peak.
