Editor’s Note: GalionLive is thrilled to present the first submission by our new correspondent, Kaylee Powers. Kaylee is a student at Galion High School, and is considering a future in media and journalism. If her first story is any indication, she’s going to have a great career in front of her!

On Friday, February 3, the Galion High School Wrestling team paid homage to those who have been their biggest supporters in what has been a very successful year. Though named “Parent’s Night,” other family members and important people to the wrestler are often included in the affair.

Before the quad meet with Northmor, Plymouth, and Ontario schools began, each wrestler and their various companions were announced and then walked across the gym to the … Read the rest

GHS Principal Fritz Caudle put it this way: “At one point, it looked like we might not have any options.” Now, Galion has three paths to choose, and it is apparently choosing to look toward the south and west.

Several weeks have gone by since the NCC debacle, where four of the Crawford County school districts announced their departures for the new N10 Conference — and with Bucyrus still ostensibly considering their own options — while leaving Galion, Ontario, and Lucas alone in the NCC. This morning, the Galion Historical Society announced the creation and availability of the new Dr. Bernard Mansfield Scholarship for Galion High School seniors. This scholarship will provide a $500 award annually to an eligible student chosen from those submitting applications. Included in the application is an essay encouraging students to consider the thoughts of a person from Galion’s past.

The scholarship is funded by proceeds … Read the rest

Chili Day 2012 was a rousing success, according to the Galion Kiwanis.

As we shared two weeks ago, this popular event showcases both great food and an important cause. The Kiwanis give two, $1000 scholarships each year to deserving Galion High School seniors, and the net proceeds from Chili Day are all used for that purpose.

It is also combined with a home boys or girls basketball contest at GHS, which many Chili Dayers attend. Unfortunately, though giving a valiant effort, the GHS Girls lost to Ontario last night, 58-57.

Chairman of Chili Day Galion Kiwanis, Lonnie Eagle, recently shared with GalionLive, “The weather usually is cold and snowy which adds to the event. Each year it gets bigger and is a fun community event. Wendy’s is hopping that evening … Read the rest
