    Snapshots in Time

    by  • January 31, 2012 • Featured, Life in Galion • 0 Comments

GalionLive, together with its predecessor site, has been a part of the Galion scene for over two and a half years. In that time, we have been aggressively chronicling goings on in our city in both photo and video formats, and welcomed the work of others willing to share their creations with our readership. As a result, we have collected a rather remarkable collection which represents snapshots into the history, culture and personality of Galion and its people. Many of these photos and videos can be found no where else.

At the prompting of one of our readers, we thought we’d take a moment and share just a glimpse of what that collection obtains – and where to access it freely and easily.

At present, GalionLive Community (community.galionlive.com) … Read the rest

    About Political Advertisements

    by  • January 30, 2012 • Featured, News & Views • 0 Comments

It’s a general election year, with important races at the national, state, and local level. As Ohioans know, such seasons bring with them a spate of political advertisements.

Advertisements for political issues and candidates are important in a democracy. With this in mind, we wanted to share the following about political advertisements.

GalionLive is fiercely non-political. The site is based on maintaining a neutrality of opinion on anyone running for public office. At the same time, it is an open site for people to share opinions and … Read the rest

Who Do You Think You Are?

    by  • January 17, 2012 • Life in Galion • 0 Comments

Today, we thought we’d take a moment and turn the focus on our readers.

We have a wide and varied readership here at GalionLive, on all seven of our sites and platforms. Each of those sites provides a different level and detail of information about what type of person reads Galion news and information online.

As an example, on our main news site, www.galionlive.com, reader statistics come largely in the form of how many people visited each page during a given time period, what browser they used to access, and basic geographical information (city and state).

Here’s what Google Analytics says, for instance, about what types of browsers people use to access GalionLive (these percentages are from the last 30 days of visits to the site):

    • Internet Explorer – 45.53%,

The growth of “smartphones,” tablets, and the like is nothing short of astronomical. Consider these numbers:

    • Some 1 billion smartphones are in use worldwide, and currently more than 50% of all searches are accomplished using a mobile device.
    • It is estimated that by 2014, use of phones and other mobile devices to access the Internet will actually surpass that of desktop users.
    • On average, Americans spend some 2.7 hours a day on their smartphones.
    • Currently over a third of Facebook’s 600 million users access the site via mobile devices.
    • The highest growing sector of Americans using smartphones is
