Galionites know the stories of Brownella Cottage and the strange “goings on” that take place there. In 2011, the local landmark was the scene of both a national television episode and a new series of unique paranormal tours.
Now, the strong connection between the Galion Historical Society and the Mansfield & Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau has resulted in Brownella become an official component of the bureau’s new compendium of haunted area sites. The “2012 Paranromal Investigation Sites for Haunted Mansfield Ohio” includes the following locations:
- Ohio State Reformatory
- Haunted Bissman Building
- Renaissance Theatre
- Malabar Farm State Park
- Mansfield Fire Museum
- Brownella Cottage

If you happened to drive by Brownella Cottage this past weekend, you may have noticed a few extra lights burning into the wee hours of the morning. On Saturday, the Galion Historical Society facilitated a multi-hour visit by the team from “SPATS” – the acronym for Supernatural, Paranormal and Technical Services, a team of paranormal researchers in the Central and North Central Ohio area.
