It was the very first time it was tried — and the results surprised even the seasoned paranomal tour professionals in attendance.

A lady in black carried on a conversation with investigators. Whispered references were made to a fatal episode in the woods north of the property. Actual moving images. A figure appearing in a window. And words kept appearing that suggested that somebody — or something — may have been watching events from the first moments that tour guides arrived.

Clearly much, much more than things that simply go “bump in the night.”

This past weekend, Galion’s landmark Gill House was the scene of a paranormal hunt, the first to take place within its walls during its entire 110 year history. A group of investigators from the Shelby/Mansfield area … Read the rest

    Officially Haunted

Galionites know the stories of Brownella Cottage and the strange “goings on” that take place there. In 2011, the local landmark was the scene of both a national television episode and a new series of unique paranormal tours.

Now, the strong connection between the Galion Historical Society and the Mansfield & Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau has resulted in Brownella become an official component of the bureau’s new compendium of haunted area sites. The “2012 Paranromal Investigation Sites for Haunted Mansfield Ohio” includes the following locations:

    • Ohio State Reformatory
    • Haunted Bissman Building
    • Renaissance Theatre
    • Malabar Farm State Park
    • Mansfield Fire Museum
    • Brownella Cottage
    • Mansfield Women’s Club (coming soon)

The bureau shares the following: “Whether you’re an expert in the field of paranormal activity, just getting started, or think it … Read the rest

As it is Halloween, we thought we’d take a quick trip into the world of the paranormal.

Paranormal tours, that is, as in the twice-monthly “Evening With the Browns,” held for the sixth time this past Saturday at Brownella Cottage.

Just before the most recent tour, GalionLive checked in with Galion Historical Society Executive Director Amber Wertman to see how the experience has been working. Amber shared, “We have done little advertising for the paranormal tours, because word-of-mouth advertising has been filling up the tours for us! In fact, there are about a half-dozen participants who have returned for a second tour and brought new friends with them!”

Wertman added that even the tour guides have stories to share – including herself. “Even as a paranormal tour guide, each time … Read the rest

On Saturday night, September 10, another Paranormal Tour: An Evening With the Browns took place at Brownella Cottage in Galion.

This past weekend’s edition was the fifth in a series of tours hosted by the Galion Historical Society with the assistance of Dr. John D. Gruber of Columbus. On each occasion, between 7 to 12 individuals have taken the opportunity to undertake a “hands-on” adventure and to gain a first-hand opinion on whether or not the historic house is haunted.

Each of these tours has sold out almost immediately after a date is posted – to date, no advertisement has been necessary. Those making the voyage into the unknown have included husbands and wives, paranormal investing organizations, and groups of friends. A set of nurses at Marion General Hospital came … Read the rest
