This past year, GalionLive covered local efforts to participate in the National Take Back Initiative of the Drug Enforcement Division of the United States Department of Justice. Locally, the Galion Police Department and Galion Community Hospital joined to provide a drop-off location for medication.

This event, however, took place during three hours only on a single day in April.

In an item shared on their Facebook Page, the Police Department has announced that it is making this service an ongoing one for the community. A metal box is now set up in the Police Department lobby, accessible off of South Liberty Street, for medication disposal.

Patients who come to Bucyrus and Galion Community Hospital Emergency Departments with signs of a possible stroke will now be evaluated and treated quicker by advanced neurological technology and highly skilled stroke specialists. The kicker is, these stroke specialists are in Columbus, Ohio.

Using advanced telemedicine technology by way of a two-way video and audio system, emergency teams at Bucyrus and Galion Community Hospital are able to quickly connect with stroke specialists from OhioHealth facilities, such as Riverside Methodist Hospital or Grant Medical, in Columbus. This mobile device serves as an extra set of eyes and ears in real-time communication, providing valuable evaluation and support, and is the first network of its kind in Ohio.

Nicole Rarick and Markus McClure welcomed their daughter into the world at 10:25 a.m.. She weighed 5 pounds, 12.5 ounces, and measured 19.25 inches tall. Dr. Hoff of Avita Health System, assisted by Kristal Lee and Heidi Hocker delivered the child.

A Nurse Navigator is a trained nurse who has experience working with people facing breast cancer and who possesses an understanding of how challenging the journey can be.
