As the chorus members exited the bandstand after their performance of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” on Saturday evening, former GHS Choral Director Herb Krichbaum quipped to those around him, “Next time I’ll remember to bring the air conditioner.”

It was, as usual, an unusually warm evening as the Galion Community Band, assisted by the chorus, presented their 36th annual performance in conjunction with the Galion Independence Day Celebration at Heise Park. In addition to the outstanding variety of musical selections performed by the band, including Sousa marches, excerpts from “Mary Poppins,” and several patriotic selections, it was also an evening which included the honoring of several community members. The month of July will be filled with opportunities for music lovers in Crawford County, as the Music in the Park series winds down in Galion, and the Crawford County Fair concerts “crank it up” in Bucyrus.

Two more concerts remain on the popular Music in the Park Series at the Heise Park bandstand, located behind the Galion Center YMCA. This coming Tuesday, July 5 brings the acoustic band “Loosely Strung,” followed the next Tuesday evening by “Gatlin,” a duo featuring Darryl Gatlin and Andrea Ison. Both concerts begin at 7:00 p.m., and lawn chairs are strongly recommended.

The Crawford County Fair features four concerts to go with its traditional fare of food, rides, animals, and fun. They include:
