    Colonel Crawford’s Company Visits Galion

    The rain drove the event indoors, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the Company.

    That’s Company with a capital “C” – referring to Colonel Crawford’s Company, an intrepid group of locals who regularly provide exhibitions of solider and family life in the time of the famed military leader for whom our county is named.

    Ten costumed reenactors welcomed visitors to the Community Room of the Galion Public Library on Saturday afternoon. They sat at tables with intriguing displays of various aspects of late 18th century life – including firearms and ammunition, sewing and toys, furs and pelts, and more.

    One reenactor carefully detailed the medicinal beliefs and practices of the time, explaining to a student about the belief in regulating “humors” through treatments such as leeches and blistering. Another … Read the rest

    Weekend Reminders

    It’s another busy weekend in Galion, Ohio, and so we thought we’d share some last-minute reminders of area activities.

    This Saturday brings the second monthly episode of the Galion CA$H MOB. The fun begins at the gazebo on Park Square – and squarely at noon. Click here for our most recent story on the local cash mobbing experience.

    The Taylor Road composting area will be open on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m..

    Also on Saturday, the Morrow County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit will be on display at a program for K-6 students at the Galion Public Library. For more information and registration, call the library at 419.468.3203.

    Library Hosting A-Z Around Town Photo Contest

    If you love architecture, photography, or just your own hometown, the Galion Public Library has a contest for you.

    To celebrate National Library Week (April 8-14), the library is encouraging patrons and friends to hunt for letters around town. In particular, they’re looking for the letters A-Z that are found in our local architecture and nature.

    Three sample photos were posted on Friday afternoon, and can be viewed below. Hover over the post for a description.

    Each photo submitted will be put on display for the month of April. Submit 26 photos or just 1… participants will earn drawing tickets for the first five photos they submit.

    A Great Month for Youth at the Galion Public Library

    Great programs for area youth are arriving later this month at the Galion Public Library.

    On Friday, March 16 between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., teens in grades 7-12 will be able to compete in the library’s version of The Hunger Games, based on the best-selling novel by Suzanne Collins. While there will be no fight to the death, contestants will be assigned districts, draw their survival gear from the cornucopia, and engage in contests that will challenge their wits, reflexes and courage.

    Door prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served. There is no charge for this program, but registration is required.
