    A Great Day for a Buy-Way

    Traffic was steady in Uptowne Galion this morning as the 2011 Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY began in earnest.

    At the large sale in the Social Hall of First Lutheran Church on South Columbus Street, volunteers noted that there had been a steady stream of customers through the morning hours. This same observation was made by Ira Johnson, who is in charge of another sale in the former Mo’s Diner on Public Square. Johnson emphasized that “it’s very different than last year,” with not only more customers, but more sales. At Uptowne Outfitters, the sidewalk fare is brand-new but at reduced prices.

    Additional sales will take place as the three-day event progresses, including one at Christ United Methodist Church, which begins tomorrow, and also Saturday’s Community Yard Sale at the Historic Union Schoolyard … Read the rest

    Scavenger Hunt During BUY-WAY

    The Ohio Lincoln Highway will continue to offer “Fun Things to Do Along the Lincoln Highway” as prizes for three upcoming winners of another Buy-Way yard sale scavenger hunt– to be played during this year’s BUY-WAY Yard Sale.

    For the fourth year, participants will travel and shop the BUY-WAY and find some common, inexpensive items; photograph them and submit them for the chance to win a first, second or third prize; each prize package consisting of an overnight stay, restaurant and retail gift certificates, free passes to museums, and more…all along the Lincoln Highway in Ohio.

    A list of items to “scavenge” will be available on the byway’s website, www.historicbyway.com, on Wednesday, August 3 just prior to the opening of the sales on the morning of the 4th.

    Historic Miltary Convoy to Visit Galion

    Mark your calendars now for June 17 – when you will see something quite rare come through the middle of Galion.  The following press release was recently received from the Ohio Lincoln Highway Historic Byway, describing the historic miliary convoy that will be heading across north central Ohio that day.

    The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA), with over 9,000 members globally, is creating a 90th year re-enactment of the US Army’s first transcontinental motor convoy across the U.S. This occurred in 1919 along the newly formed Lincoln Highway, partly to support the need for good roads, to test the various vehicles of the military in many different conditions, and also to honor the World War I veterans.
