Galion City Schools has announced that the Preschool Program will begin registering soon for the 2012/13 school year. The local program promotes a “hands on” learning environment that aligns with the Ohio state preschool content standards in the areas of language arts, math, science and social studies.

The Galion City Schools Preschool will operate from 9:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:30 daily, Monday through Thursday, during the school year. Snacks will be served daily.

Upon enrollment, all children are screened. A vision, hearing, and speech screening will be conducted along with the Early Screening Inventory (ESI). The ESI will help determine if any additional services may be needed. Each preschooler will be required to have a physical and dental exam completed.

NOTE: We will have coverage of Thursday’s regular monthly meeting of the Galion Board of Education in three installments.

If all goes as planned, Galion Schools students will soon be given the chance to “get back to nature.” And instead of traveling to Mohican, or even to nearby Lowe-Volk Park, that opportunity will be no further than several yards from their own schools’ front doors.

Fox, a local Boy Scout, has approached the District about creating a nature trial through a wooded area on the Galion Schools campus as his Eagle Scout Project. After first meeting with District Superintendent Kathy Jenney and Operations Director Kevin Early, … Read the rest

The first meeting of the calendar year for the Galion Board of Education is typically an interesting mix of routine matters and long-range visioning. Thursday’s Organizational Meeting was no exception to that rule.

The meeting began with the swearing-in of three Board members — newly elected member Brian Owens and re-elected members Robert Zeisler and Dennis Long (see above) — and quickly proceeded to the election of Board officers. Nominated by Zeisler, the Board unanimously elected Long to serve for an additional year as Board President. Then, as nominated by George McElligott, the Board unanimously elected Jennifer Kuns to serve as Board Vice-President.
